Failure in success

QUOTE - Francis Chan JPEG

Have you ever wondered if what you are doing really matters?

As a person in my 20’s I talk to a lot of young people who feel like that all the time. They want to change the world and want to find God’s plan for their lives. I have felt that way myself. This feeling that is laid on almost all young people to find their “calling” in life. This idea that you hit 18 graduate high school and then need to figure out what you should do with the rest of your life. There is so much pressure to “get it right” it is overwhelming.

In my own life, when I was 18 and had just graduated high school, my plan was to go to a Christian college and get a youth ministry degree and become a youth pastor. That was my plan. Back then if anyone would have said, “one day you will have a blog sharing about God’s love and ways.” I would have said you were crazy. Writing was never something I was good at or enjoyed doing. Anyway…

I went to that Christian college, but only for 1 semester. My wife and I ended up moving back in with her parents. So my “calling” in life got smacked in the face. I didn’t know what to do. Years later I started school again. This time with an understanding that God has a great plan for my and my families lives. That plan is perfect and whether we know what it is at 18 or figure it out at 50 its there and when we get there it will be perfect.

You might be thinking…”thats awful! So I just have to put up with the crap I am dealing with now?”

James 4:8

Come close to God, and God will come close to you.

As you are thinking about your life and your future seek Him. He will be with you in all that you do. Maybe you want to be an Astronaut (my dream as a kid), but you cant just do that. There are many steps to get there. The same is true with all areas of life. There is often something you feel in your heart to do, but you need to learn or do something else 1st to be ready when you get there.

Colossians 3:18-24

Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting for those who belong to the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and never treat them harshly. Children, always obey your parents, for this pleases the Lord. Fathers, do not aggravate your children, or they will become discouraged.

Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything you do. Try to please them all the time, not just when they are watching you. Serve them sincerely because of your reverent fear of the Lord. Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ.

Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. He will bless you when you take every opportunity to make whatever you are doing into an opportunity to show God’s love and faithfulness to others.

Look at David in the bible. He started as a shepherd boy. He may have wanted something more for his life. When his brothers went to war he was not allowed to go. Even though he wanted to go he was content in serving as his fathers shepherd boy.

How do I know this?

Would you have fought a lion or a bear if you didn’t think herding sheep was important? On the other hand if they where God’s sheep and He told you to protect them; then would you fight a lion or a bear for His sheep?

David sought to be a blessing to God wherever he was. Even though he wanted to be a great warrior; he did the job he had as unto the Lord. He ended up getting the desires of his heart and much more.

So what is failure?

Failure is not living for God in the here and now. If you are always looking for that other thing…”then I will be good…then I will be able to live for God.”

Failure is not opening your eyes to what you can do for God NOW!

Those dreams in your heart…Hold onto them and ask God about them. In time, your dream will change (as mine have) or God will lead you into them.

Draw near to God and He will Draw near to you. Ask Him to show you how you can honor Him with your living NOW!

God Bless!
